SQUIRES2KNIGHTS MINISTRIES
The roles and responsibilities designed for men have been twisted and distorted beyond recognition. Men do not know how to be men. And our families, communities, churches and nation are paying the price. We must find ways to pass on Christ-centered manhood to our boys.
Philip Lancaster sums it up well: Our national crisis is a consequence of the crisis of the home, and the crisis of the home is a crisis of male leadership. (Family Man – Family Leader, The Vision Forum, Inc., 2003)
Rather than disciples and servants of God, strong spiritual leaders, loving husbands and involved fathers, dedicated providers and courageous protectors – too many men are becoming (brace yourself guys) busy and work-a-holic, unaffectionate and uninvolved, self-oriented and sports-crazed, macho or wimpy, absent and/or abusive, all too often cheating men. Our culture simply no longer embraces God’s masculine design for men.
With role models like that, the next generation of men will likely emulate many of the poor examples they have observed.
You see, a young man growing up without a mentor is just a boy seeking his identity. He may never become any more than an adolescent (in other words, reached puberty but has never grown up). A young man under the mentorship of a noble, chivalrous man is called a squire. He will become a modern-day knight.
Today’s boys may become tomorrow’s wanderers.
Today’s SQUIRES will be tomorrow’s KNIGHTS.
Tomorrow’s hope for authentic manhood is unquestionably in today’s boys. However, today’s boys need changed men.
So what is the catalyst for changing men?
We will change men by convincing them their sons desperately need fantastic role models and mentors in their dads, coaches, Scout Masters, uncles, big brothers, teachers and any other adult males with whom the boys are in contact. We must also understand that fatherless boys have little hope unless other men step in to fill the void. If you’re not convinced, read Squires To Knights – Mentoring Our Teenage Boys.
Squires2Knights Ministries is offering a plan to help you and other men become effective role models and mentors for Christ. We are offering resources for adult men, be they dads or other relatives; leaders in athletic programs, Boy Scout troops or church youth groups. Through regular group devotions your young men can embrace a Christ-centered manhood vision and develop into the men God meant for them to be.
We must alter the current path of family breakdown, community disconnectedness, faith erosion, and national crisis. Tomorrow’s knights are the future leaders of the family, community, church, and nation. Their hope lies in “a few good men” who will raise them up; raise a generation of men who will serve, lead and love as God purposed.
Be their hope!
Rite of Passage
My husband would like to have a ceremony for my 18 year old son before he goes off to college challenging him to be a man of God. Do you have any resources to help us. We would love some creative ideas.
